Outdoors

Because of my injury, I still can't run but I have been itching to get outdoors.  So last week I tried cross-country skiing.  It was my first time on skis, period, and I fell plenty and was pretty sore for days from using muscles I don't usually, but it was really fun.  We had a beautiful clear day that wasn't too cold and I loved it.

I'm going to look for sales and see if I can get myself a set of skis and boots.  We have trails aplenty around here, though I hear from other locals that they have spotted both cougars and bears recently (yikes).

  2. What injury? I'm glad you're skiing. I should figure out how to send you my skis. I was a little too optimistic, bringing them here. What size shoe are you?

  3. I hurt my knee while training for the half marathon I never got to run (due to the hurt knee). I don't know exactly what is wrong with it but it has been unhappy ever since and I keep meaning to go to the Dr. Meanwhile, I have been swimming a couple of times a week with a pal here and that is fun. I've always known I'm a better swimmer than runner and it feels good to finally be not-horrible at something, though I often wish I didn't measure performance in that way.

Thanks for the offer for the loan! I think I will try to shop a sale, though, and get some for good. I like this sport. Maybe one day I won't fall down as much. At the very least, I don't fall from as much of a height as I do while mtn biking, which is a nice change. I don't even feel terrified while skiing!
